Chevrolet Silverado 2024 review: ZR2

Jul 08, 2023Jul 08, 2023

With its hefty 2583kg kerb weight and 3300kg GVM, the ZR2 has a relatively small 717kg payload which is identical to that of the Ranger Raptor.

However, the ZR2 is rated to tow up to 3500kg of braked trailer on a 50mm ball, or up to 4200kg on a 70mm ball. And with its 6851kg GCM (or how much it can legally carry and tow at the same time), that means it can tow up to 3500kg while also hauling its maximum payload.

However, towing 4200kg is less convincing given that to avoid exceeding the GCM limit would require a huge reduction in payload to only 68kg. That's barely enough to accommodate just the driver, and a relatively light one at that.

Even so, we reckon the need to tow 4.2 tonnes would not be a ‘real world’ issue for most Aussie owners.

The load tub, with its power-opening tailgate and spray-on liner, has a total of 12 load-anchorage points and there’s a bright LED overhead lamp (rear of cabin roof) for night loading.

Deep concave steps are also integrated in each side of the rear bumper to assist load tub access.

There’s ample and thoughtful cabin storage, starting with two cup/bottle-holders and a large bin in each front door, plus a single glove box.

The 60/40-split base cushions can also swing up and be stored vertically if more internal load space is required. (Image: Mark Oastler)

There are two more cup/bottle-holders on the rear of the centre console, plus another two in the seat's fold-down centre armrest.

Clever hidden storage can be found inside the two outer seat backrests, thanks to hinged upper cushions that swing open to reveal internal compartments for small items.

The 60/40-split base cushions can also swing up and be stored vertically if more internal load space is required.

Doing this reveals a large full-width storage area underneath which can hold even more stuff, which is hidden from prying eyes when the base cushions are down. You’d struggle to run out of storage in this cabin!
