You may have seen our drag racing video, when we went to the prepped track to drag race our Ford F-150 Raptor R against some iconic V8 cars. The short story is that the supercharged 700-horsepower Raptor R won without a question. We also broke our C6 Corvette in the process. The Corvette had a hydraulic clutch failure, the pedal went to the floor and that’s all she wrote.
My Chevy Colorado comes to the rescue as we need to tow the Corvette to the transmission shop, and also retrieve our fixed 1997 OBS Ford F-250 Power Stroke V8 truck. Our classic diesel truck has a 5-speed manual transmission, and it had a leaking hydraulic master cylinder. In this video, I find out exactly how much it costs to repair and replace some hydraulic clutch actuator components. Turns out it’s way more expensive than I originally thought.
My new 2023 Chevy Colorado has over 5,500 miles on the odometer. I recently had my oil changed for the first time, and I sent the oil sample to the lab for analysis. My pickup has been super solid mechanically. I put over 500 miles on the truck pulling our 6,000 lbs boat/trailer. However, the truck has had some software glitches. One significant problem right now is that my reverse camera does not work. It makes it a bit more challenging to hook up trailers.
My truck is rated to tow up to 7,700 lbs, and this C6 Corvette on our tilt trailer weighs about 6,500 lbs together. This towing trip was uneventful and fairly easy. The Colorado truck’s 2.7-liter turbo I4 has plenty of horsepower and torque to move a trailer of this size. Since the Corvette is so aerodynamic, I even got an impressive 13.4 MPG while pulling this trailer.
Once, we got to the transmission shop, we were able to unload the Vette without damaging it. Now, it’s time to see the OBS Ford truck. The Ford’s manual transmission hydraulic system repair cost us just over $640. The shop had to purchase a pre-bled master cylinder system. A new linkage also had to be purchased.
